What is a roof drain and why is it important?
A roof drain is used to get excess rainwater off of your roof and to prevent water damage to your home caused by pooling. They are most common on homes with flat or semi-flat roofs because they don’t have a natural incline. With that being said, they are usually placed at the lowest point possible. Your draining system ultimately protects your roof from leaking or caving in and roof drain cleaning is recommended every few years or so.
Why is my roof drain not working properly?
Believe it or not, the #1 problem happens to be leaves and other debris in your gutter. Over the fall and winter seasons, leaves are constantly falling and tend to pile up pretty quickly. When it rains, any sort of debris on your roof is going to be washed along directly into the gutter and can easily cause blockages. Because of the clutter, rainwater will overflow back onto the roof and cause standing water. Lucky for you, such a blockage can be solved easily. If you discover leaves in your gutter, simply remove them with your hands or another tool. If you want to prevent it from happening again, we suggest installing a gutter guard.
When should I call a plumber?

While most clogs can be handled easily, some are big and need extensive cleaning. When you call Flo Guard, we’ll have a certified technician at your home in less than an hour.
