Residential Shower Repair
As much as they are used, showers typically require the least amount of maintenance relative to other fixtures. However, several items relating to showers such as faucets, shower heads and drains are a different story. If you’re not completely sure what type of shower repair you need, we recommend scheduling a video inspection.
What should I be on the lookout for?
The main problem that occurs in a shower is a clogged drain. While a clogged shower drain is very common within a household, they can be prevented with proper maintenance. If maintained, measures taken can keep homeowners away from costly repairs. First and foremost, use a drain cover. Hair is arguably the main cause and using a cover to trap it makes a world of difference. Secondly, try to avoid drain-clogging activities. When you empty mop buckets or wash your pets in the shower, dust, dirt and pet hair can clog sensitive drains.
If you’re looking to unclog your drain at home, many generic cleaners will get the job done quickly, just make sure to use one without harmful chemicals. Such cleaners keep drains running and break up stubborn clogs. Most contain compounds break down soap, hair, protein and other substances that are in the way. If using a cleaner isn’t working, a plunger may come to the rescue. A plunger forces high-pressure water into the drain to loosen whatever is stuck. You may have to go through the plunging rhythm about six times in order for it to work. If you’re still having trouble, you should call a plumber as soon as possible.
When else may I need a shower repair?
If you’re experiencing a leaking shower head or faucet, you need to get it checked out immediately. These are a huge source of excess water use and will greatly add to your water bill. In other cases, they may have just acquired corrosion with age and are due for a replacement.
